Binance CEO warns of a large number of fraudulent crypto sites in Google search results

Changpeng Zhao (CZ) warned that cryptocurrency phishing and fraudulent sites are still being promoted in Google search results.

CZ emphasized that phishing sites with the "advertisement" tag appeared right before the legitimate CoinMarketCap site when Google searched for the site.

And this, by the way, is not an isolated case. Many well-known sites in the crypto world have their copies in Google search results. And as a rule, they are pure scams. The worst thing is that they appear above the main search queries.

And that's why many inexperienced users take them as an original site, often without paying attention to the "Advertisement" bar in front of the site in the search results.

Phishing sites sometimes use fake URLs to trick people into going to the site and taking action. For example, CZ pointed out one of the sites called "coinomarketcaap."

Agreed, it looks implausible, but even such a low-level scam has its users. And in a hurry, you can accidentally mix it up, not notice it...

Although it's still low-level in the level of phishing, sometimes sites have precisely the same domain in appearance as the original. Ask you how it's possible? The brilliant thing is simple, the symbol is replaced by the same, but from Unicode, so it looks exactly the same. Still, because of the scripts, Google perceives it as different from the original address. Although this method is used quite rarely...

The cybersecurity research arm of CheckPoint issued a document in November 2021 warning users about the theft of nearly $500,000 by scammers using Google Ads to promote malicious sites that look like MetaMask and Phantom cryptocurrency wallet providers.

That's why, dear friend, you better always check the addresses you enter and don't go to "left" addresses. For example, if you see a tutorial where you have to download the Phantom wallet, you better find the official site instead of downloading it using links from this tutorial. This way, you protect yourself as much as possible. Always double-check everything!
