Alexey Pertsev, developer of Tornado Cash, has been refused bail

Share

There are no official charges yet, but Alexey Pertsev, the developer of the cryptomixer, will have to spend 90 days in jail.

No one will deny that the case looks very strange, because Alexey was imprisoned without any accompanying case. But he will still have to serve at least 3 months until the facts r clarified. The court of the Netherlands ruled so yesterday, August 24, 2022.

The decision of the imprisonment was made after the refusal of the lawyers' request to allow him to be released on bail.

The second funny thing u can read about in our last article is that the sanctions were not imposed on a particular entity or individual, but on the software itself, i.e. the US imposed sanctions on the CODE, on letters, brackets, numbers & other symbols :D.

The arrest itself is causing waves of protests because it is a threat to many open source developers, even though they have no control over exactly how and by whom their code is used.

There is currently an online petition demanding Pertsev's release. It seeks 2,500 signatures, and it has already been signed by 2,485 people. About 50 people gathered in Amsterdam's central Dam Square in support of the developer.
