Durov is facing charges for:
- Administering a platform that facilitates illegal transactions
- Refusing to provide information to authorities
- Money laundering, involvement in the distribution of child pornography, drugs, and participation in fraudulent schemes
- And so on. A total of 12 charges
According to Article 132-3 of the French Penal Code, if a person is found guilty of multiple charges during an investigation, they will be punished for each one. However, if the charges are related, the sentence may be combined into a single penalty.
Durov seems to be facing essentially the same charge repeatedly.
Legal experts are writing that Durov could face up to 10 years in prison. We don't know; we're not lawyers—we just sell monkey pictures on the internet—but that's what they say.
Durov has been released on bail of 5 million euros. He is required to report to the police twice a week and cannot leave France for the time being.
Some lawyers suggest that Durov didn't fully admit guilt but agreed to cooperate with the investigation, which is why he was released.
We'll keep an eye on this.
