Be careful even visiting hotels! They scam there too

Cointelegraph told us the unusual story of a Webaverse co-founder who had his crypto stolen...at a hotel.

Long story short:

– Ahad Shams, the Webaverse co-founder, met investors in a hotel in Rome

– Ahad was keeping his money in a fresh Trust Wallet account

– Ahad made a scrupulous DYOR on investors making the pass KYC and such things

– Btw, investors were scammers and stole crypto from Ahad. Moreover, they asked Ahad to show them “proof-of-fund”. That's why he created a new Trust Wallet account and sent there $4 million, which scammers took away

– Ahad still can’t get how it could be possible. As he said, he didn't connect to public Wi-Fi and didn’t show the seed phrase to scammers. He thinks they could scam him by making a pic of his wallet…but how? Satoshi knows.

So what?

It’s a great case that shows how careful you should be. Even if VPN is the most used app on your mobile and Kevin David Mitnick is your best fren. Some points to follow:

а) Decentralise the money! Do not keep them in one place

b) Never become a crazy paranoid mate who doesn't believe anybody. But bear in mind that scammers are everywhere. Also, if someone asks you to show you “proof-of-funds”, think of ways to show it without showing the wallet. Fck off, scammers!

c) And the base: do not connect to public Wi-Fi without VPN, do not store your seed phrase in your mobile and so on.
