The blockchain industry is ready for one of its own to join the U.S. Congress, whether it’s Messari founder Ryan Selkis or someone else.

That’s judging by reactions on the floor of Messari’s conference, Mainnet 2021, taking place at the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan this week. Yesterday Selkis said he was going to run for Senate in 2024 on Twitter, following a rumored subpoena served by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to an attendee on the event’s first day.

Mainnet attendees on the floor were broadly supportive of someone from the industry directly joining the political fray. The industry has already started to get organized, with groups like the DeFi Education Fund and the Blockchain Association already operating in the nation’s capital.

Ofc, politics is a dirty game. But you can't ignore it either. We must stand up for our rights. Hmmm...Congress has rallied the crypto industry with its pressure.

And in the face of a common enemy, the industry will become united!

As Decrypt reports, Fortune magazine and NFT artist pplpleasr donated over $650,000 worth of ETH, spread evenly between four journalistic organizations.

The funds were raised as part of an auction of Fortune NFT magazine covers in August, which generated over $1.3 million in ETH.

Reporters Without Borders, The GroundTruth Project, The Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), and The Committee to Protect Journalists each received nearly $165,000 worth of ETH from the sale of the NFTs. In a post today, Fortune lauded the recipients as being “worthy organizations that support a free press and public service journalism.”

Coinbase has cancelled plans to launch Lend, a product that would provide 4% interest on USDC holdings.

Earlier this month, Coinbase said that the SEC threatened to sue the firm if it launched the product.

“Our goal is to create great products for our customers and to advance our mission to increase economic freedom in the world,” the update reads. “As we continue our work to seek regulatory clarity for the crypto industry as a whole, we’ve made the difficult decision not to launch the USDC APY program announced below.”

Burger King has announced the launch of a new non-fungible token (NFT) campaign in collaboration with NFT marketplace Sweet. NFTs are a type of cryptographically unique token that can represent ownership over sports memorabilia, concert tickets, or artworks.

As part of the Burger King Real Meals NFT initiative, QR codes will appear on nearly six million meal boxes, unlocking a digital collectible.

The NFT is part of Burger King's 'Keep It Real Meals' campaign, which is done in partnership with celebrities Nelly, Anitta, and LILHUDDY.

Awesome! Maybe it's in the NFT world that Burger can beat McDonald’s? At least somewhere…
