Everyone’s talking about it: Pavel Durov officially announced that Telegram will be sharing IP addresses and phone numbers with law enforcement. Ofс, this only applies to those violating Telegram’s rules.

Some hate Durov now. Fun stuff. Let’s break it down:

a) First of all, let’s be real. Most of us got into crypto for the memes and the money. Few are truly interested in sitting in cypherpunk meetings discussing decentralization and anonymity without a focus on profit.

Most people are here for the airdrops, let’s be honest.

So, it’s a bit odd to expect social networks and Durov to protect the anonymity of rule-breakers.

Not many in crypto actually want decentralization. Most just want money, and that’s it.

b) Secondly, IP addresses and phone numbers of actual criminals and cyber crooks are usually fake. Registered to some random guy.

So, sure, this will make law enforcement’s job easier, but not by 100%.

c) Thirdly, sitting on the internet in 2024 and thinking you're safe in your kitchen is naïve and foolish.

If they want to find you and punish you – they will. Whether you’re guilty or just said something wrong about those in power. Even if Pavel Durov stands up to defend us, they’ll still find and punish us. Him included.
