The planned Berlin hardfork as part of the Ethereum 2.0 update has officially taken place!

The update took place on block #12 244,000. ETH rate approached the $2500 mark in anticipation of this event.

The update added 4 (EIP) Ethereum network improvement proposals (EIP-2565, EIP-2929, EIP-2930 and EIP-2718). Two of which (EIP-2565 and EIP-2929) aim to change the algorithm for calculating transaction fees.

The next hardfork on the network will be London, which is scheduled for July 2021. London should completely change the algorithm for charging transactions within the network. This will burn off some of the transaction fees that miners currently receive.
