The International Criminal Police Organization plans to strengthen the fight against cryptocurrency-related crimes by creating a particular unit.
According to Interpol Secretary General Jurgen Stock, the lack of a legal framework for cryptocurrencies like bitcoin creates severe problems for law enforcement.
"Because very often agencies are not properly trained and equipped to deal with cryptocurrency crimes at the outset," Stock noted.
Interpol's latest effort to better track cryptocurrency crimes is not the agency's first initiative to gain more cryptocurrency-related skills.
Interpol has been working on getting more expertise to examine cryptocurrency transactions and identify criminal activity on the darknet since at least 2015.
