The creator of the World Wide Web called cryptocurrencies dangerous speculative tools and compared them to gambling.
Discussing the future of the World Wide Web, Berners-Lee stated that digital currencies are "just speculation."
He also made comparisons to bubbles with no substance. "It's just speculation. Obviously, it's very dangerous," Berners-Lee said in an interview with CNBC. "...if you want to have fun gambling, essentially."
Berners-Lee also stated that his vision of Web 3.0 differs from the crypto Web3. "It's not blockchain," Berners-Lee said, speculating that blockchain technology is not fast or secure enough.
