Instagram could have built-in tools for creating and trading NFTs very soon. Still, in-app purchases will be "subject to appropriate store commissions."
Instagram is developing a feature to coin and sell NFTs through its app, parent company Meta announced Wednesday. An upcoming "end-to-end toolkit" for NFTs will allow users to create and launch their own NFTs for sale through Instagram.
What's unexpected is that Instagram's launch will use Polygon's blockchain to mint NFTs. The app will also pull NFT metadata from OpenSea to view collection names and descriptions on Instagram.
This slow adoption strategy is in line with the rest of Meta's approach to Web3. Back in May, it announced the launching of a wallet connection feature for select authors to display their NFTs on Instagram and Facebook profiles.
