After the failure of the NFT project Quartz, the studio is still not disappointed in its powers and technology. As stated by the staff at the moment, the studio is also looking for opportunities in this niche.
Over the past few months, the company has cooled off a bit toward NFT. This is especially evident in the latest interview with Yves Guillemot, CEO of French gaming giant Ubisoft.
In October, though, Ubisoft's CFO talked about blockchain gaming as salvation; he also talked about how the company wants to become a key player in this niche.
In a Sept. 10 interview with gamesindustry.biz, Guimo seemed to retract some of those comments, stressing that at this point, Ubisoft is primarily trying to figure out how NFTs can be applied to games and whether or not they will benefit gamers. Well yeah, everyone was clearly more daring at the Bullrun...
"So we're testing on the range of some games, and we'll see if they really meet the needs of gamers. But we're still in research mode, I would say," from Yves' interview.
Reflecting on Ubisoft's release of NFT, Yves Guillemot says the company ultimately didn't communicate its approach to the project effectively enough.
"We probably didn't talk very well about what we were exploring," he said, adding that "we should have said we were working on it, and when we had something that would give you a real benefit, we would bring it to you."
The company was most likely spooked by massive player dissatisfaction with the release of the failed Ubisoft Quartz, which just happened to fall under pressure.
