A .eth domain for 100 years should cost $100 - ETH co-founder survey results

Share

A survey of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin showed that people really want lifetime .eth domains. But at the same time, 50% of people aren't ready to give more than $100 for 100 years of the domain ownership.

Cryptocurrency domains r trending right now, & the main one in this market, not surprisingly, is Ethereum. And more precisely, its service - ENS Ethereum Name Service.

Based on these considerations, we r talking about a fair price for such a service. And owning a .eth domain name for 100 years.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin asked Gem City (well, everyone else too :D) on his Twitter what price subscribers think would be appropriate to register & maintain ownership of a 5-letter .eth domain for 100 years. Buterin offered four options: less than $100, $100-$999, $1000-$9999 and $10,000 or more.

Of the 91,000 votes, about 50% chose the most affordable option - $100 for 100 years of ownership. Not surprising in principle. Although one of the users thought that the costs should grow with time, & for a century of domain ownership, it is quite normal to give a thousand bucks (well... you know, a million here & a million there, the usual thing).

The most expensive sale of the ENS domain took place in October 2021, when paradigm.eth was sold for 420 ether (ETH), which was worth 1.5 million dollars at the time. The second largest sale occurred in July 2022, when 000.eth was bought for 300 ETH, worth about $320,000 at the time of the sale.
