Detractors redirected traffic from the account to a phishing address with fake shenanigans on behalf of The Sandbox. And they also tried to rent the famous Bored Apes Yacht Club collection from NFT account subscribers.
On Thursday, September 8, The Sandbox metaverse Instagram was hacked. They were sending subscribers a text in personal messages. It talked about a new contest with a LAND Season 4 land giveaway.
The company also reported that the hackers bypassed even the two-factor authentication to cash in on the famous brand. By the way, even yesterday, hackers wanted to take traffic from Apple's presentation and redirect it to phishing, read here.
Also, they replaced the actual site in the profile immediately after the hack. One of the subscribers, by the way, said that he lost the NFT by following the link, but on the other hand, it's not clear if it's true or if someone just can't wait to get the free NFT as compensation. It's easy to verify it, though. Just look at the transactions from the wallet.
According to the Sandbox co-founder and COO, the scammers who hacked the insta wrote to several users on Instagram with photos of Bored Ape Yacht Club's profile in an attempt to "rent" NFT by offering 40 Ethers (ETH) for using NFT BAYC for 24 hours.
The Sandbox also said they are already working with the Instagram team to complete a review and security audit. Gem City residents affected by the incident can contact The Sandbox team through the support channel by emailing support@sandbox.game.
